Annual Data Center Audit Checklist
An annual data center review provides an opportunity to compare current facility conditions with documented requirements, previous findings and changes made during the year.
Rather than treating it as a routine inspection, the annual review should focus on what has changed, what remains unresolved and where new risks may have developed.
Power & Electrical
Review significant changes to electrical distribution, equipment loading, protection arrangements and supporting documentation. Previous electrical observations should also be checked to confirm whether corrective actions were completed.
Cooling & Environmental Conditions
Evaluate whether cooling performance continues to match current IT demand. Changes in rack density, equipment placement and operating patterns should be considered alongside temperature, humidity and environmental records.
Safety & Security
Review fire detection and suppression records, emergency arrangements, access controls and physical-security processes. Any modifications made during the year should be reflected in current procedures and documentation.
Compliance & Documentation
Check whether drawings, asset records, maintenance reports, operating procedures and applicable compliance documentation remain current. Outdated records can make incident response and maintenance more difficult.
Close Previous Findings
One of the most valuable parts of an annual audit is reviewing the previous year’s findings. Outstanding actions should be reassessed, while completed improvements should be verified.
The final review should clearly separate closed findings, open risks, new observations and planned improvements, giving management a practical view of how the facility has changed over the year.
Planning your annual infrastructure review? A structured Data Center Audit can help turn yearly observations into clear priorities for the year ahead.
